Fillers

Fillers are products that are administered to different areas of the face to help reduce the signs of aging, add fullness and improve appearance of wrinkles. Depending on the area of the face that you would like treated (for example: the cheeks, the marionette lines, the lips) there are different filler options available. Most fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is already found naturally in the body and has plumping characteristics. There are different sizes of the hyaluronic acid molecule. The different sizes make a difference in the amount of fullness or plumping that is achieved with administration. Smaller molecules work better in the lips and finer wrinkles whereas bigger molecules achieve better results for deeper wrinkles.

Administration

Fillers are a relatively safe product that are administered in an office setting as a nonsurgical (noninvasive) facial rejuvenation treatment. Prior to treatment, the areas are anesthetized with a topical anesthetic to help reduce the pain associated with the needle sticks. The results are instantaneous from the filler. Potential risks associated with the injections include bruising, bleeding, and swelling.  Serious risks are uncommon. It is recommended to avoid drinking alcohol or taking NSAIDs prior to treatment as this can increase the risk for bruising and bleeding.
