SkinMedica Illuminize Peel® Pre-Treatment Instructions
The SkinMedica Illuminize Peel helps provide vibrant, radiant skin with minimal downtime and is suitable for patients with mild skin imperfections as determined by your dermatologist.
For Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI
One week before Illuminize Peel®:
Patients should avoid these products and/or procedures:
- Electrolysis
- Depilatory Creams
- Waxing
- Laser Hair Removal
3 days before Illuminize Peel®:
Patients should avoid these products and/or procedures:
- Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®
- Any products containing retinol, alpha-hydroxy acids or beta-hydroxy acids, or benzoyl peroxide.
*The use of these products/treatments prior to your peel may increase skin sensitivity and cause a stronger reaction.
CAUTION:
- Patients who have had medical, cosmetic facial treatments or procedures (e.g. laser therapy, surgical procedures, cosmetic filler, microdermabrasion, etc.) should wait until skin sensitivity completely resolves before having the Illuminize Peel® procedure.
- Patients who have had cosmetic injections should wait until the full effect of their treatment is seen before receiving an Illuminize Peel®.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
- Active cold sores, herpes simplex, or warts in the area to be treated.
- Wounded, sunburned, excessively sensitive skin.
- Dermatitis and inflammatory rosacea.
- Accutane® use within the last year.
- History of recent chemotherapy or radiation therapy. (Patient should be cleared by their Oncologist.)
- Patients with a history of allergies (especially allergies to salicylates like aspirin), rashes, or other skin reactions, or those who may be sensitive to any of the components in the treatment.
- Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
- Patients with vitiligo.
- Patients with a history of an autoimmune disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, multiple sclerosis, etc.) or any condition that may weaken their immune system.
Illuminize Peel® Post-Peel Instructions
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Immediately after the peel and for up to 24 hours:
- Skin may appear slightly redder than usual for about 1-2 hours after the treatment. If neck and chest are treated, the redness might last slightly longer.
- Mild edema can last up to 1 hour.
- Wait until bedtime before washing the face.
- Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of the procedure.
Next day – 4 days after the procedure:
- Skin should look normal the next day
- Illuminize peels are superficial peels. Because of the superficial nature of this peel, patients should not expect to see visible peeling following Illuminize peel treatments. Occasionally, some patients may have very minor flaking 3-4 days after the procedure.
ILLUMINIZE PEEL AFTERCARE REGIMEN:
Patients should adhere to the following regimen for optimal post-peel skin care.
- Cleanse: Use a gentle, soap-free cleanser like SkinMedica Sensitive Skin Cleanser® or Facial Cleanser. Do not scrub and/or use a wash cloth.
- Moisturize: While skin is peeling, the patient should apply TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream™, Ultra Sheer Moisturizer, or other SkinMedica® moisturizer recommended by a medical professional as often as needed to relieve any dryness.
- Sun Protection: Apply Daily Physical Defense® Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30+ in the AM and throughout the day. Avoid direct sunlight for at least one week.
Four-five days after procedure:
- The regular use of Retin-A®, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) products or bleaching creams can be resumed after 4-5 days.
- Wait until skin sensitivity resolves before having ANY OTHER FACIAL PROCEDURES, including:
- Facials
- Facial hair removal
- Microdermabrasion
- Cosmetic injections
- Laser treatments (including laser hair removal)
SERIES OF PEELS:
For maximum results, our skin treatment Omaha specialists advise Illuminize Peel® be applied every 2 weeks until the desired results are achieved.
SUNBURN ALERT:
Extra precautions should be taken to avoid sun exposure following the peel. It is recommended that patients use a sunscreen product with an SPF of 30 or higher to prevent sun damage. SkinMedica® recommends limiting sun exposure for at least one week after the peel is performed.
